Garbage Disposer What you can do.

Garbage Disposal or
Disposer (same thing), click here to see larger image Basically you are not going to find Plumbers who are going to put a new turntable (the circular disc that does all of the work) in your disposal, and it would not be cost effective if they did. If your parts look rusty inside and they jam or don't cut food well it is time to replace the entire disposal. Please purchase one with as much stainless steel inside as possible; anything else is just to get you by until you can afford the good one.

the reset button is, click here to see larger image If in the rare case your relatively new disposal stops working you can try resetting it. Some disposals come with a red reset button. It is located on the bottom or on the side close to the bottom. These are found on disposers that have a limit switch inside the unit, in case the motor gets too hot. In this case wait or cool it down by running cold water through it, make sure the unit is off, and then push the red button. Not all disposals have a reset button. The other thing a plumber will do is (after making sure it is off) is to turn the turntable with the appropriate tool. Usually the appropriate tool is an Alan key. They will insert the key into the bottom side of the disposal and turn either direction. If it does not turn it probably means something is jammed in so tight it is not going to dislodge itself like that? The diagram shown is an attempt to draw the likeness of the bottom of a garbage disposal. Back to homepage
