Tub Spouts

1.My tub spout drips. 2.Can I replace it to stop the drip?
3.Are they all of the same?
1.  There are basically 2 types of tub spouts. One type has a diverter button. The other does not.
The diverter enables you to divert the water from the spout to the showerhead. If you have a bathtub only, then
no diverter is necessary. If you have a bathtub shower combination and a regular tub spout
as well, you divert the water from the
spout to the showerhead using a different system, probably there
is a button or a handle by the other handles to divert the water.

    2.  If your tub spout drips, replacing will not change it from dripping. That is solved by replacing
parts in the valve, where the handles are. I show a diagram of stems and seats here for the purpose of illustrating
how the seal is made.
    3.  As I say a lot in this part of the site I am not trying to show you how to do this job yourself
but there are things that you can know that will save you a lot of time which will translate into saving you dollars.
Like I said at the beginning at this page there is basically 2 types of tub spouts, however there are really
2 subcategories of those. In the diagram below it reads like this.
